According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of the Arak Metropolitan Municipality, following the presence of Dr. Fereydoun Farahani in his hometown, this renowned figure in Iranian architecture and urban planning, at the invitation of the city management, visited the historic bazaar complex of Arak and its interconnected caravanserais. In this specialized survey, accompanied by Dr. Alireza Mahmoudi, Mayor of Arak, Dowlatabadi, Deputy for Infrastructure and Urban Transportation Affairs, Shabani, Director of the Public Relations and International Affairs Department, and a group of urban experts, the old caravanserais and passages of the bazaar were revisited and subjected to technical analysis. During this field visit, Dr. Farahani conducted a precise and meticulous analysis of the bazaar’s unique architecture and described the subtleties used in the physical design of the caravanserais as a pioneering and inspiring model in Iranian-Islamic engineering. This distinguished university professor, while recognizing the heritage attractions of this complex, explained the unique features that have placed Arak Bazaar among the finest examples of linear bazaars in Iran from the perspective of urban design and spatial proportions. An analysis of the connection between commercial, religious, and service spaces in the historic fabric, and an examination of the potentials for revitalizing this national heritage, were among the main axes of this specialized discussion in the heart of the bazaar. The presence of a renowned architect and researcher such as Dr. Farahani in Arak’s historic fabric provided a valuable opportunity for city management to benefit from his profound and academic perspective in recognizing the authentic urban identity and intelligently protecting the architectural treasures of his hometown. ‌
